About Us

The Kilimo Makueni Management Information System (MIS) is an initiative of the County Government of Makueni, developed to support knowledge-driven governance and enhanced service delivery in advancing the mandate of the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperative Development (DALFCD).

The system serves as a central digital platform for data collection, organization, analysis and sharing, empowering both decision makers and extension officers with timely and actionable insights of agricultural programs and value chains.

The Department was established under the County Government Act of 2012 (Section 46) and assigned its functional responsibilities by H.E. the Governor. The department's primary mandate is to promote and facilitate the production of food and agricultural raw materials for food security and income generation; advance agro-based industries and agricultural exports; and ensure sustainable use of land resources as a foundation for thriving agricultural enterprises.

Agriculture remains the backbone of Makueni County's economy, contributing approximately 78% of household income. About 79% of the county's 244,669 households are engaged in agricultural production, with 74% involved in crop farming and 65% in livestock farming. The main crops include maize, green grams, mangoes, avocados, and citrus, while key livestock are indigenous poultry, goats, sheep, and cattle.
